St. Cloud, MN –The St. Cloud Rox have named Michael McCormick as their Pitching Coach. McCormick is currently the Head Coach at Ave Maria University, a NAIA program in Florida. He served as the program’s interim head coach in 2021 before earning the full-time job the following season. He led Ave Maria to its first winning season in a decade in 2022.
“Michael is a very accomplished baseball coach and is one of the top young pitching coaches in the country. His passion for mentoring pitchers is second to none and we could not be more excited about adding Michael to the Rox family,” said Rox Field Manager Brian Lewis.
As a player, McCormick pitched at Division I Eastern Illinois University for two years. McCormick would go on to get drafted in the 34th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He spent two years in the White Sox organization where he was selected as an All-Star during the 2018 season. After the White Sox, McCormick concluded his career with the independent Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association. McCormick received a degree in Organizational and Professional Development from Eastern Illinois University. McCormick and his wife Teigan have a daughter, Kolby, and a son, Stetson.
“My family and I are all very excited to join a great organization and community. I am eager to work alongside the rest of the coaching staff, front office, staff, and players with the goal of bringing a championship home to St. Cloud this summer. We are ready to get in on some Rox Solid Fun,” said McCormick.
The Rox home opener is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd versus the La Crosse Loggers presented by Coborn’s. There will be a huge post-game fireworks show.
