Six Rox Players Named to Big League Dreams Showcase

St. Cloud, MN – The Northwoods League has announced the rosters for the 2014 Big League Dreams Showcase, which will be hosted by the Madison Mallards at Warner Park on Tuesday, August 5. Six players from the St. Cloud Rox were selected to participate in the Showcase as pitchers Josh Taylor, Dalton Sawyer and Chad Hockin will join catchers Harrison Wenson and Kade Scivicque, and outfielder Morgan Phillips in Madison.

Taylor currently sits among the Northwoods League leaders in strikeouts with 47 on the season as he has started in a team-high nine games for the Rox in 38.2 innings pitched. Sawyer has registered four saves in 2014 with a 3.24 ERA in 15 appearances and Hockin has fanned 11 batters in 12.1 innings pitched for the Rox.

Wenson was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 38th round of the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft and is currently batting .210 (21-for-100) with six doubles and nine RBIs. Phillips is also a major league selection as he was taken in the 17th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He currently has four home runs this season for the Rox with 12 RBIs and Scivicque is batting .235 (27-for-115) with three home runs and seven doubles.

The 2nd annual Big League Dreams Showcase will consist of a double-header featuring the top players from the Northwoods League who were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball Scouts.  The players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts which will be followed by the double-header.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northwoods League Foundation.  The Northwoods League Foundation utilizes the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families with an enduring and caring focus on Northwoods League communities.

The first game will start at 4:05 p.m. and will match a team of players from the visiting North Division against a team of South Division players. The North team will have players from the Rochester Honkers, Mankato MoonDogs, St. Cloud Rox and Willmar Stingers. The home South Division team will have players from the Kenosha Kingfish, Green Bay Bullfrogs, Lakeshore Chinooks and the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

The second game will start at 7:35 p.m. and will be played by two additional teams of North and South players. The North team for this game will be made up of players from the Alexandria Blue Anchors, Duluth Huskies, Eau Claire Express and Waterloo Bucks. The South team will have players from the Madison Mallards, Battle Creek Bombers, Kalamazoo Growlers, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and the La Crosse Loggers.
