The Bismarck Larks dropped an exciting game in extra innings to the Mankato Moondogs friday evening by a score of 5-4. The Larks pitched in and out of trouble while stranding 15 Moondogs on base throughout the game but were unable to hold on in the end.

What’s Next: The Larks face off against the Moondogs again on Saturday, June 15th in Mankato, Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm.

How It Happened: The Larks took the lead in the first after Ty Condel, Jacob Rogers and David Mendham picked up back-to-back-to-back singles which scored the first run of the game. Jacob Rogers then tagged up on a fly ball to center field to get to third with two outs before coming around to score on a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead from the start.

The Larks then increased their lead by another in the second inning on a two-out RBI single from Zack Gregory which scored Wyatt Ulrich from second to make it 3-0.

Starting pitcher Evan Glew then got into trouble in the third when a double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with nobody out. Glew then stranded all three runners after he struck out the first batter before getting a fly ball to shallow right field and then finished it off with another strikeout to end the inning.

Evan Glew then loaded the bases with nobody out again in the fourth inning before Brian Leonhardt came in from the bullpen to induce a ground out to get the runner out at home for the first out. Leonhardt then got a shallow fly ball out for out number two before walking in a run then got another ground ball out to make it 3-1 Larks through four innings.

Another run came around to score in the fifth for the Moondogs before they tied it on back-to-back doubles to tie the game in the sixth.

With the game still tied, the Moondogs had second and third with one out in the 8th inning against Bradley Collins who then got a strike out and a ground out to get out of the jam. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Collins struck out the side to strand another Moondog in scoring position to force extras.

Zack Gregory wasted no time in the 10th inning after he roped a double on the first pitch of the inning down into the left field corner which scored Alex Peterson from second to take the lead courtesy of the International Tiebreaker Rule. The Larks then stranded Gregory at second with nobody out. The Moondogs tied it on a double with nobody out in the bottom half of the inning before a ground ball that went off of Zack Gregory’s glove and into center field won the game for the Moondogs which scored the runner from second secure the game by a score of 5-4.
