Larks Sign D1 Pitcher from Wichita State

Shocker Pitcher, Ty Howry, set to play for the Larks in 2023

(Bismarck, ND) – The Bismarck Larks Surveyed the Field powered by Frontier Precision and found another Division One athlete to add to this season’s pitching staff. Right-handed pitcher Ty Howry from Wichita State University will play for the Larks in 2023.

Howry is a Redshirt Freshman with the Shockers, and has not played for them yet in 2023. However, that should not keep fans from being excited to see him on the Larks’ mound this summer.

In high school, Howry attended and played for Northwest Christian School, lettering three out of the four seasons that he spent with the Crusaders. During his senior year, he served as the Varsity Captain of the team and struck out 87 opposing batters throughout the 46.1 innings he pitched.

Fans will be excited to learn that Howry’s baseball experience does not end there. Last summer, he pitched for the Kansas Cannons, a team in the Kansas Collegiate League. Over the summer, he went 4-0, striking out 35 batters over 38.2 innings, ending the season with an ERA of 4.66.

Baseball also seems to run in the family as Ty is the son of former Major League pitcher Bob Howry. Bob spent 13 years playing in the majors, pitching for six different teams including the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs. Bob Howry ended his career with an ERA of 3.84 and a total of 653 strikeouts.

“It will be exciting to have a player with the experience and legacy that Ty does playing for us this year,” Larks Head Coach Will Flynt said. “We can’t wait to see him on our mound.”

Ty Howry will join fellow Shocker Carter Rost on the Larks pitching staff, as well as other Larks favorites Alec Danen, Garrett Yawn, and Justin Goldstein.

The Larks 2023 season starts on May 29 at home against the Duluth Huskies.

UMary Answers Larks’ Call to the Bullpen

Pitcher Logan Moser – who previously threw a complete game no-hitter – will join the Larks in 2023.

The Bismarck Larks Surveyed the Field powered by Frontier Precision and found a new pitcher to add to its growing 2023 roster. Logan Moser from the University of Mary will join the Larks ranks in 2023.

“One of the areas we really struggled with last year was on the mound,” Larks Head Coach Will Flynt said. “It was really important for us to strengthen our pitching this year and Logan is someone who can help with that.”

Moser is a redshirt freshman at the University of Mary, having not seen any field time during the 2022 season. He comes from the city of Eaton, Colorado where he shined on his high school team.

Moser of Eaton High School shut out Brush High School with a complete-game no-hitter including 13 strikeouts and walking only one in all seven innings. The Reds took the game 3-0 over Brush.

During his senior year, Moser led his team to a victory in the Class 3A State Championship Game striking out 13 opposing batters and even bringing in a run himself with an RBI single. The final score was a 4-1 victory for the Eaton High School Reds, earning the 12th overall state championship for the school’s baseball program, the first state title since the 2015 season.

Logan Moser will play for the University of Mary this upcoming spring season and will join the Larks’ pitching staff alongside returners Alec Danen and Garrett Yawn this summer.

“One of our top roster priorities this year was getting players who would bring a solid performance on the mound,” said Larks Owner and General Manager John Bollinger. “We think these guys are really going to put on a show.”

The Larks 2023 season starts on May 29 at home against the Duluth Huskies.

Larks Bring in New Blood from the Golden State

Mason Le, Jakob Simons and Luc Stuka – all from California State University Northridge – will join the Larks in 2023.

The Bismarck Larks Surveyed the Field powered by Frontier Precision and found three new players to the Larks 2023 roster. These players include infielder Mason Le, outfielder Jakob Simons, and first baseman Luc Stuka from California State University, Northridge.

“This is a huge step in the right direction for this team,” Larks head coach Will Flynt said. “We’re really excited for what these guys are going to bring to our group this year.”

All three new recruits are coming from California State University, Northridge. Le, the longest-tenured Matador, has played for the team for three seasons beginning in 2020. Simons spent the 2022 season with the team after previously playing for the Chabot College Gladiators from 2019 to 2021. Stuka has only recently joined the team for the 2023 season after playing for Saddleback College for two seasons and California State University San Marcos for one.

Mason Le has batted .260 over three seasons for the Matadors with his best season being in 2021 with his batting average of .277 over 27 games. During his sophomore season in 2022, Le hit 5 home runs, ranking third-best on the team that season.

Jakob Simons proved to be a dangerous opponent in the outfield, having not committed a single error in 64 chances during the 2022 season. The speed in the grass translates to the dirt as Simons went 6 for 8 in stolen base attempts.

The 2022 season was fantastic for Luc Stuka at Saddleback. He racked up a total of 60 hits in 45 games along with 14 doubles and 5 home runs. The sophomore batted a very impressive .339 playing for the Bobcats.

“These guys are really gonna do some damage on the field this year,” Coach Flynt said. “We’re ready to come out swinging.”

Le, Simons, and Stuka will join returning Larks Alec Danen, Garrett Yawn, AJ Barazza, and Garrett Macias on the Larks’ 2023 roster. A new look roster that will have fans cheering all summer long.

“We are shaping up for a great season,” Larks Owner and General Manager John Bollinger said. “Last year was disappointing on the field and we want to right the ship in 2023.”

Bismarck Larks Announce First Roster Moves

AJ Barraza, Alec Danen, Garrett Macias and Garrett Yawn will all return to play for the Bismarck Larks in 2023.

The Bismarck Larks Surveyed the Field powered by Frontier Precision and found the return of four players from the 2022 roster. The players include Pitchers Alec Danen and Garrett Yawn, Infielder AJ Barraza, and Catcher Garrett Macias.

“We wanted to bring back our best guys from last year,” Larks head coach Will Flynt said. “We didn’t have the outcome we wanted but knew we had some good dudes on our roster to build around.”

Danen, a Junior at Viterbo University, joined the team late last season, appearing in eight games but finished 1-0 in his two games as a starter. Yawn, a Junior at Division 1 Long Island University, started nine games for Bismarck in 2022 finishing with 44 strikeouts through 45 innings pitcher.

Both teammates at Cal State San Bernardino and now for back-to-back seasons in the Northwoods League, AJ Barraza and Garrett Macias were two of the best offensive players the Larks had last season.

Barraza knew how to get on base finishing the season with 65 walks, third most in the league. While on base, he managed nine stolen bases, good for fifth on the team and crossed the plate a total of 33 times. That is tied for second on the team in 2022. Reliability was also one of Barraza’s best traits. He saw the field 55 times last season, the most by any Larks player.

Macias was one of the all-around best players at the plate last season for the Larks. He was second on the team in batting average at .295 and ranked fifth on the team with seven doubles and three home runs.

Competing for time behind the plate with long-time Lark Spencer Sarringar will no longer be the case this season. Sarringar is no longer eligible for Northwoods League play meaning Macias has home plate all to himself this season.

“I’m eager to get back into it,” Macias said. “I came back to visit my host family in December and I just wanted to get right back out on the field.”

“Bringing back the best of our 2022 season was critical for us,” said Larks Owner and General Manager John Bollinger. “Not just guys who played well on the field, but fan favorites that we know fans will be excited to see again.”

The Larks 2023 season starts on May 29 at home against the Duluth Huskies.

The best way to see Larks games this summer is to be a Flock Member. It includes the best box seats, 3 innings of food and drinks, a jersey, a hat, and exclusive access to year-round events. Memberships start at just $108 for four games.

Flock Memberships are over 88 percent sold out for the upcoming season.
