We sat down with trumpet extraordinaire Michael Cartwright, who will be joining us at the ballpark for 5 nights this summer!
WHO IS MICHAEL CARTWRIGHT?
I am a man of the world. I’m a person who is constantly seeking adventure and new things to a fault. I’m always adding something to my quiver of skills in life. I love music. I love the outdoors. At the top of my bucket list is to attend a high-performance driving school and learn how to be a race car driver. I’d also like to learn how to be a salsa dancer. The ultimate bucket list item of what
I’d like to do, though, is I want to see our Earth as a globe in the palm of my hand from space. I want to go to space just like everybody’s doing these days.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT THIS SUMMER WITH THE LARKS?
This is a completely new realm of performance for me. I’ve done musical theater, which is usually a rehearsed style of doing things. I’ve done live full performances. I’ve done improv, I’ve done recording sessions, but with this whole sports game idea, mixed in with a little bit of comedy and my natural talents — it’s really all about igniting the audience. At the end of the season, I know I’ll be like, ‘Man, that was a blast.‘
WHAT SHOULD LARKS FANS LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN THEY’RE AT THE BALLPARK?
The freshness of somebody who’s new. I’m not your typical North Dakotan — I don’t walk, talk or act like your typical North Dakotan — so they should come ready to have some fun with me. I always like people and this is perfect. I like people who throw the ball back, I like throwing you a conversation and you throw some conversation back with me. I’m looking for the audience to throw the ball back with me. Let’s play catch.

I’m on a big journey from A to B and I’m happy that the Larks have shown up somewhere on my journey. And I’m glad to be part of that with everyone else.
