Lennon Hanson is the April Kid of the Month

Hanson will receive the prize package powered by MDU Resources Group

Lennon Hanson, 6th grade, will receive special recognition at the Bismarck Larks May 29th Kid of the Month game, powered by MDU Resources Group.

As the April Kid of the Month, Lennon was selected for her effort to make an impact at Center-Stanton Elementary School. Inspired by her teacher, she and a friend organized a school-wide competition to celebrate reading month in March, and challenging students to illustrate their own book covers.

“We wanted to see all of the different drawings and also wanted the kids to have a little bit of fun during reading month,” Lennon said.

Around Valentine’s Day, Lennon and her friend also organized a Kindness Bulletin Board for the school. Students and staff were encouraged to write kind notes to friends around the school and place them on the board. Lennon then hand-delivered these notes. So many students were writing kind notes to each other that they ran out of sticky notes.

Lennon’s teacher, Lisa Gusewelle, says she stands out for her work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help out in class.

“Lennon is a shining example of leadership, kindness, and creativity. Our school is better because of her,” Mrs. Gusewelle said.

Lennon’s response to being named the Larks April Kid of the Month was humble gratitude. She thanked others who have made a difference in her own life, and says she loves the opportunity to help those around her.

The Larks are inspired by kids like Lennon as she joins seven other kids of the month since last September. MDU Resources Group proudly supports this program, ensuring all Kids of the Month receive free tickets to the 2025 MDU Resources Group Kid of the Year game and a customized Larks jersey. At the game, one outstanding kid will be selected as Kid of the Year and receive $1,000 to invest in a 529 College Save Plan. Nominations are open for the final 2025 Kid of the Month.
