The Mandan Flickertails earned their first win against rival Bismarck Larks 10-8 on Friday night. It was the Flickertails fourth win in-a-row, while the Larks dropped their third straight.
The Flickertails were led by a strong performance on the mound for starter Ben Schoneman. Schoneman went five scoreless innings and surrendered five hits, just one walk and struck out six Larks hitters.
The bats were lively for the Larks and Flickertails but no bat was livelier than the bat of Mandan’s Cole Elvis, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Elvis’ seventh-inning home run is the Fetzer Electric Play of The Game. His strong offensive performance helped carry the Flickertails to their fifth and Bismarck-Division leading fifth win.
Flickertails pitcher Trystan Vrieling consistently hit 92 mph on the gun that awarded him the Metro Area Ambulance Fastest Pitch of the Game. Vrieling recorded the final three outs of the game to pick up the save and put the Flickertails in first place.
The Larks have the day off on Saturday and the Flickertails are the home team in the day-night doubleheader on Saturday against the Bismarck Bull Moose. First pitch for game one is 12:35.
