LA CROSSE, WI– The Bismarck Larks fell to the La Crosse Loggers in a high scoring game 9-6 and fall to 11-8 on the season. The Larks hit three home runs in Saturday’s game but weren’t able to keep the Loggers off of the scoreboard. With this loss, the Larks fall into a three way tie for third place in the Northwoods League standings.

Bismarck put up three runs in the first inning, starting with a one out walk to Ripken Reyes and then Kyle Stevens put one over the left-field wall to put the Larks up 2-0. The next batter, Chase Coker, then hit a solo home run to go up 3-0. The Loggers would plate one in the bottom half to make it a 3-1 score.

The big inning came in the bottom of the third inning when the Loggers were able to push across five runs and take the 6-3 lead.  “We’re playing good baseball for seven of the nine innings every night,” said Larks Assistant Coach, DJ Engle. “We need to start eliminating those bad innings that are hurting us.” The Loggers would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the 8-3 lead but the Larks never gave up.

Matt Warkentin hit his first home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning to cut the gap to 8-4. The Larks scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it a 9-6 ball game.

After Sunday’s game with La Crosse the Larks will head home and have their first off day of the season. “This off day coming up will be big for us physically and mentally,” Engle said. “These guys aren’t used to playing every single day and they will need that day off to relax and have some fun off the field.”

“Tomorrow’s game is huge for us because it will be a morale booster and we still haven’t put all three phases of the game together,” Engle told the Larks.  “When we do, we are capable of a long winning streak” said Engle.

The Larks lose by a score of 9-6 and are now 11-8 on the season. They will be back in action tomorrow night against the La Crosse Loggers, with first pitch scheduled for 5:05PM.
