Despite dropping their final game of the season after a comeback performance by the St. Cloud Rox, 6-3, the Bismarck Larks completed their season with an epic finish featuring a proposal and post-game fireworks..
It took extra innings to finish the season finale for the Larks, and it was St. Cloud — who earned their 50th win of the regular season for the second straight year — who scored five of their six runs in the ninth and tenth inning.
The Larks had a two-run lead heading into the top of the ninth, but after RBIs from Gustavo Nava (Southern University and A&M College) and Trevor Austin (Mercer University) St. Cloud was able to tie the game at three and force extra innings.
Finally, in the top of the tenth O’Neil Burgos (Southern University and A&M College) hit a three-run home run to give the Rox their first lead since the top of the tenth.
The Larks saw a great performance on the mound from Adolfo Iturralde (New Mexico) who went six innings out of the bullpen, allowing no earned runs and striking out seven batters. Iturralde also delivered the Metro Area Fastest Pitch of the Game at 90 mph.
Iturralde not only made highlights with his arm, but with his glove as well. In the top of the third, Iturralde made a great snag on a comebacker to the pitcher’s mound from left fielder Ike Mezzenga. That putout was tonight’s Fetzer Electric Play of the Game.
At the plate, Garrett Macias (CSU-San Bernardino), Seth Surrett (LIU-Brooklyn) and Adam Axtell (Point Loma Nazarene) finished with RBIs.
St. Cloud travels to Wilmar for a best-of-three series in the first round of the Northwoods League Playoffs.
A big thank you to all the fans and supporters of the Bismarck Larks! We will see you next year.
