Rox Pitching Dominant in 5-1 Win Over Larks
by Evan Epstein
The St. Cloud Rox picked up a two game sweep over the Bismarck Larks on Thursday evening.
It was the Larks that struck first. Sam McClinton hit a two out-double, and would score on a wild pitch later that inning. However, in the top of the 4th, the Rox responded against Larks starting pitcher Joe Turner. Grant Sommers continued his dominance this series as he drove in two runs on a double to left field, and Nolan Geislinger picked up an rbi single later that inning, as the Rox took a 3-1 lead.
St. Cloud would tack on two more runs in the 7th. Larks reliever Cade Sonoqui walked the first two batters he faced, and after a double steal, Joshua Dykhoff hit a sacrifice fly. The next at bat, Austin Haley scored on a ground ball off the bat of Jackson Cooke.
The Rox received great pitching throughout the contest. Riane Ritter threw 5.2 innings, giving up just four hits and one run as he struck out six batters. JD Dobis pitched 1.1 innings of one-hit scoreless ball, and Aiden Lieser finished off the game with two scoreless innings.
With the win, the St. Cloud Rox improved to 4-0, and they head home to take on the Badlands Big Sticks in sole possession of first place in the Great Plains West Division. The Larks drop to 1-3, in 5th place in the division.
The Larks take on the La Crosse Loggers on Friday, May 30th for game one of a two game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CST at Municipal Ballpark.
